Nine months later, in the living room of Mia and Leo.
Leo put little Meo down and sat next to his wife on the couch. Little Meo crawled on the play-mat that plays a different note as he stepped on each number, on all fours. He coos happily, making a tune that’s far advanced for someone his age.
Mia smiles. “This kid is going places”
Leo lets out a bark of laughter. “It’s probably programmed to sound like that darling”
He turns on the T.V and plays the news. A well-groomed lady with a tight bun and strict eyes, was speaking. Leo and Mia braced themselves, already sensing this was about knives again.
“Mischief or Danger, that’s what’s normally expected of knives in this world. Unfortunately the mischief only blooms when they’re babies and transforms into danger when they’re grown up.
Sure there are exceptions like Mr Harrington who trains the employees of Cutlery Company. That man is quoted as an example for all those who look down upon knives.
However, a recent paper with statistics, published at the Cutlery Institute, display the brutal reality. Majority of knives, unfortunately don’t end up having great lives.
Moreover, Melissa, one of the most powerful, and youngest fork who’s been able to make it at the Cutlery Institute as the new headmistress while occupying a seat at the Cutlery Ministry and Management, begs to differ. She rejects the possibility that knives could help advance the Cutlery World. Her words are as follows, “they are a big nuisance and burden in our society, not just simply a danger”
Consequently, she’s been busy gathering votes at the community board at the ministry, to build a separate school, public toilets and even workplaces for knives. This means that knives might not get access to the Cutlery Institite, company, and more important places like the ministry. In a way, they will be completely excluded from our society, in paper.
A lot of knives have protested by vandalising public buildings or trashing property. Videos on Cuttles has been going viral, with some knives either cussing out Melissa or showing vandalism with no inhibition. This seems to prove Melissa right even more.
The world is holding its breath and waiting to see what will happen on Monday where we will have the meeting and votes being live-streamed on our channel. The most interesting bit? Mr Harrington himself will be a member, sitting at the table, and his vote will be counted too.

Leo tried to hide the small tremble in his hand as he changed the channel. “I can’t believe this…they’re alienating knives more and more, as years go by. I wonder what kind of life our little Meo will live”
Mia blinked her tears away. “He will live a beautiful normal life. He will inherit our house and properties. He won’t turn to aggression or other scandalous things. As for the laws, it won’t affect him much as our son will never need to use a public toilet or institution. We worked hard, now he will enjoy the fruits of that”
Leo let out a sigh of relief. His wife was right. Being rich, did have its perks. But another fear creeped up in him. Sure, knifes who were privileged could escape the cruelty and double standards of society. But would he and his wife be able to bring him up in such a way, that would keep his knife nature in control ?
Leo knew one thing, he had to get Mr Harrington to mentor Meo as much as he could. The latter would gain a good amount of restraint and wisdom by following that legend’s footsteps. And that would be the next step.
